A Fast Recovery After a Derailed Project
For SykkelCenteret, optimising systems was never supposed to become a problem.
As a growing Norwegian bike retailer operating across three locations, SykkelCenteret needed to replace its outdated setup with one that was more retail- and workshop-friendly.
But after nearly 11 months spent implementing a new solution, the project still wasn’t functioning as desired. After trying to make the setup work properly, SykkelCenteret decided to stop the project.
Instead, they switched to Bikedesk – and from there, the process moved quickly.
“With Bikedesk, we went from annoying pain, agonizing pain, to heaven – in one day.”
– Kurt Haarr, SykkelCenteret
From Manual Routines to Faster Operations
One of the biggest operational improvements came from Bikedesk’s master data function.
Before switching to Bikedesk, manually creating and maintaining products was extremely time-consuming – especially when receiving larger shipments with multiple sizes and variants.
For SykkelCenteret, receiving three loads of helmets could easily take an entire working day. Today, the same task takes around 30 minutes.
Products, variants, and information are now handled far more efficiently, reducing repetitive manual work processes while giving staff more time for sales and customer service.
The result is not only faster workflows, but also a more scalable way of operating across their three stores.
Replacing Paper Tickets with Digital Tracking
Another major change has been the introduction of Bikedesk’s workshop tickets module.
Previously, SykkelCenteret relied heavily on physical paper notes to keep track of important information, including workshop jobs and customer data. In addition, they had to do follow-ups and notify customers manually, leaving room for potential slips or duplicate work.
This also meant that information could easily get lost between the front desk and the workshop, consequently affecting customer service.
Now, these malfunctions are over: With Bikedesk, SykkelCenteret now manages workshop jobs through digital work orders, ensuring that all information flows automatically between systems.
This also allows SykkelCenteret to communicate with customers in a far more professional and modern way through automated SMS and email notifications.
Customers can now receive:
- Service updates directly from the workshop
- Payment links for completed repairs
- Pickup notifications
- Annual service reminders
- Targeted campaigns and communication
To the staff, Bikedesk provides better visibility and less manual coordination.
For customers, it creates a smoother and more modernised service experience.
Improved Financial Visibility
The integration between Bikedesk and the accounting setup also provides more accurate operational insight: Inventory changes are transferred automatically to the accounting system, giving management an updated financial overview instead of relying on delayed manual processes.
For a multi-store retailer like SykkelCenteret, this creates stronger visibility into inventory movement and business performance across all locations.
“Bikedesk gives you so many opportunities regarding how you want to do things.”
– Kurt Haarr, SykkelCenteret
A Foundation for New Opportunities
For SykkelCenteret, the transition to Bikedesk was not simply about replacing software. It became an opportunity to rebuild operational workflows, remove manual bottlenecks, and create a more scalable foundation for future growth.
And after an 11-month failed implementation project, getting back to stable operations in just two months made all the difference.
And while the current webshop integration already delivers substantial operational improvements, SykkelCenteret sees significant potential for the future.
The technical foundation itself has impressed both SykkelCenteret and external developers involved in the project.
According to the external developers working with the integration, the Bikedesk API structure and flexibility create strong future opportunities – not only for SykkelCenteret but also for a much broader market.
